eSIM compatible phones: the complete list

Before buying an eSIM, a 30-second check. The universal test: dial *#06# on your phone keypad — if an "EID" number appears, your phone is eSIM compatible. That's it.

iPhone

  • Compatible: all iPhones since iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR (2018) — so iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, and SE 2020+.
  • Note: iPhones purchased in mainland China generally do not have eSIM; those from certain countries have different configurations. The *#06# test settles it.

Samsung

  • Compatible: Galaxy S20 and newer (S21…S25), Note 20, all Z Fold and Z Flip, A54/A55/A56, and most recent high-end A series.
  • Note: some entry-level A models and certain regional versions do not have eSIM — test with *#06#.

Google Pixel

  • Compatible: Pixel 3 and all subsequent models (3a, 4… 9, 10, and 'a' versions).

Xiaomi, Oppo, Honor, Nothing…

  • Xiaomi: generally compatible since 12T/13 series on global versions; entry-level POCO and Redmi often do not have eSIM.
  • Oppo: Find X3 Pro and newer, high-end Reno.
  • Nothing: Phone (2) and later.
  • Honor: Magic 4 Pro and later (global versions).

The 3 common pitfalls

  1. Carrier-locked phone: a locked phone (subsidized purchase) rejects third-party eSIMs. Check with your carrier for unlocking — it's free and legal in France after 6 months.
  2. Regional version: the same model may have eSIM in Europe but not elsewhere. The *#06# test is definitive, not the product sheet.
  3. eSIMs already full: phones store a limited number of eSIM profiles — delete old, unused travel profiles.
